About

A graduate of Gray’s School of Art in 2015, Heather began her career as a multidisciplinary designer in boutique Scottish design agencies. Seeking a new and challenging creative environment, she later relocated to the Netherlands, where she worked as a brand experience designer in a consultancy.

After spending 4 years in the field, and experiencing the profound impact a lack of creativity has on health and wellbeing first-hand, Heather shifted her focus.

Rediscovering the transformative power of creativity, Heather found solace in a childlike state of “play” with art, contributing to her physical and mental health recovery. Eager to share these benefits, she embarked on various ventures, including founding an acting club in the Netherlands, facilitating acting courses, and hosting a weekly show titled “Music to Make Art to” on Radio Worm, a local online community radio station.

Dedicated to researching and promoting the healing properties of the creative process, in 2023, Heather participated in IBB’s “All You Can Art” summer school at the Kunsthal, Rotterdam. The program’s social impact approach resonated with her mission, meeting like-minded individuals including friend Pip Wong.

The duo quickly discovered a shared love for socially-engaged art practice, the therapeutic effects of being creative, and a drive for entrepreneurship. At the end of the summer, they wanted to continue creating, preferably with others, in a safe and nurturing space. Shortly after, they began sharing a studio space with 5 other AYCA alumni and hosting workshops and events.

In the beginning of 2024, Pip and Heather went to Curaçao for a short residency at the Instituto Buena Bista, where they gave classes to students, ran workshops with psychiatric patients, and launched IBBRadio, an independent internet radio station broadcasting from the IBB. Coming back from the island, Heather and Pip founded Stichting Art is Home, striving to provide a safe space and resources so that everyone can exercise their creative freedom. In doing this, they hope to stimulate self-development and facilitate the therapeutic effect that making art can have.

Heather’s personal projects stem from this research – experimenting with new ways to engage herself and others in this “creative flow”, across all mediums of the creative arts.
